Seeking out some assistance in his plan to win over the love of Madame de Tourvel(Pfeiffer),
Valmont(Malkovich) finds Julie (Gogan) and interrupts her own little bedroom romp with
Azolan (Capaldi). In return for his discretion, she must help him get hold of Tourvel's
personal correspondence. She is reluctant, but must accept her new position in the
espionage industry of Baroque France. Although Malkovich's character is a man skilled with
seducing women, it is nevertheless unnerving to see him turn down Julie's offer, let alone
have women chasing him. Malkovich's physical appearance hardly exudes sexuality.
